Thanksgiving Dinner, Blog-style

We desperately need a new posting and I realized that a week from tomorrow is our national feast holiday. So, I'm inviting you to Thanksgiving Dinner on our blog. I'm bringing broccoli/cheese casserole and pumpkin pie, because they're really the only things I'm capable of making. I'm also going to bring my insecurity issues as regards my dissertation and a refusal to get along with at least one person, so that everyone else feels like they're walking on eggshells. I think that person will be Fezziwig who, though a dog, has personish tendencies and will undoubtedly grovel. Next?

Alright. I'll be there with the Grand Marnier Cranberry Sauce, the sweet potato gnocchi in brown butter, and a bottle of Three-Buck Chuck. Also, I'll be bringing the half-baked, misinformed, drunken political ramblings and a sense of righteous indignation about the American consumerism that plagues the holiday season (which I will mainly discuss in between telling everyone about the awesome electronic gifts I found for my parents and the sale decorations I picked up at Cost Plus). Additionally, I will probably take Fezziwig's side, but secretly, so relations will still feel unbearably awkward and no one will be quite sure where the alliances lie.

My mom. She will do the dishes. Why? B/c she has a dishwasher.

So, I know you'll all be busy with the Family on T.Day, but what about picking a real time - if you can get away from the festivities -to log in for a few minutes and celebrate together? Is that gay? Because I'll be home cooking without family and I think it would be fun. I'll even bring pictures of delicious comida to the great blog feast. I don't know when everyone eats, but I offer up...10:00? 11:00? (Tucson time). During the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade! Yay!

When are 10 and 11 "real" time? I'll be in Cincy, which is EST, Boobarella is on Central, and I don't know WHAT Samantha is on out there in San Fran...

I think it's a great idea... not even remotely gay! The morning will work best for me, as we usually eat at 2:00, which means getting to my brother's house at Noon to make sure Sharon isn't in the process of burning anything...So I guess 10 or 11 will need to be moved up to 8:00 or 9:00? Hmmm. Well, whenever it is, let's do it!

Being that this is a very family and home oriented holiday, I will be drinking all weekend and hiding in my bathroom. But for you I will rise from my self induced haze and leave the warm confines of my mold encrusted water closet to chat with you all. Just tell me a time and I’ll put my mimosa in a tumbler and head to the computer.

I knew I could count on you guys to be gay with me. Especially Wingal. Boobarella's got her kitchen utensil, after all...

9:00 Tucson time (Mountain? Pacific? God only knows - I think we're on Mountain time now. In Tucson it doesn't really matter what you're on because it's always so goddamn different from what everyone else is on) is 11:00 Cincy time now; 10:00 Boobarella time; and 8:00 Samantha time. Sooo...shall we say 9:30 Tucson time? Will that work for your travels, Wingal? Or is 9:00 better? Because if I can have a mimosa at 9:00 on a holiday, surely Samantha can have one at 8:00. It's Thanksgiving!

More information about time zones can be found on the internet.

um...are we talking am or pm? Because I can just tell you right now I'm not going to be up at 8 am. Actually I wonder if I will be home from my potatoes in box and gravy out of a can thanksgiving with my in-laws by 8 pm. THANK GOD Clifford will be there at least there will be one sensible person/dog to talk to. And Wingal..Gnocchi? I'm pretty sure that falls into the pasta catagory. I knew there'd be something I wouldn't eat. I volunteer galic mashed potatoes, especially as I won't be getting any unless I make them myself! Grrr...I guess I can roll out of bed and sit in the dark basement and log in at 8am. Clifford will love it. Is wine before breakfast a bad thing?

Okay, first Sam, the Gnocchi is all Jenny's doing... you know me better than that.

As for the time, Noon EST should be fine... my contribution to our feast is usually just to rip apart bread for the stuffing the night before and to set the table. They'll only need so many cooks in the kitchen, so I can stay at our house... just so long as our online celebration doesn't take more than an hour.

So, Noon EST=

11:00 for Boobarella
10:00 for Jenny
9:00 for Samantha

Wow, four time zones unite for one Thanksgiving celebration... if only we knew someone in Hawaii...

Now, how do we do this? And what am I going to drink?!

Uh...I'll be heading to a party later in the afternoon held by a guy from Hawaii - does that count?

Also, to assuage any fears, the gnocchi in this case is made out of sweet potatoes and is mmmmm. I'm sure Wingal can handle it. I'm going to post the recipe on SMD so she can get used to the idea.

10:00 sounds even better. Definitely within the Mimosa Hour.

Oooo, ooooo! I bought a Thanksgiving card for the Kelly kids today and it says:

"What do baby sweet potatoes sleep in?

Their YAMMIES."

So, gnocchi me, baby!
